For soldiers serving in the American military, retirement is typically the furthest thing from their mind, as their present task typically involves the sum focus of their attention. This helps explain why so many soldiers stay on in command positions well past the age that their private sector counterparts have retired. Yet everyone must retire at some point, and unfortunately for soldiers with the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center at
Robins AFB, Major General Polly A. Peyer's time has come.
General Peyer has yet to set a date for her departure, but has picked a successor in Major general Robert H. McMahon, the current director of logistics, deputy chief of staff for logistics, installations and mission support, Headquarters U.S. Air Force.
Speaking to the military press, Peyer claimed that the time was right for her to retire.
"The decision is always a personal and hard one to make, but I feel that it is the right time for me and my family," she said. "It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as commander of the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center at the pinnacle of my 35-year career."
