Soldiers at
Fort Hood are doing their part to support the local community by participating in the For the Love of Chocolate annual fundraiser benefitting the Fort Hood Area Volunteer Child Care Fund this weekend.
Members of the 13th Expeditionary Sustainment Command's dining facility have partnered with event organizers to help prepare treats for the event at an off-sire kitchen. The military confectioners will prepare a number of chocolaty treats, and coffee and cocoa will be provided by a local Starbucks.
The event will also feature a silent auction for gift certificates to local restaurants and businesses, games for children and families and a DJ dispensing music for all those in attendance.
Sonya Pagonis, the president of the Child Care Fund, tells the Fort Hood Sentinel that the soldiers have been an integral part of the event's success.
"They are excited to show everyone what they can do," she told the news provider. "They are all out in full force to help."
The non-profit organization, which provides free child care to military spouses, has had difficulty securing funding in recent years, and the event is one way to maintain operating costs.
