Scott AFB appoints new commanderAs the military constantly continues to evolve, new commanders are stepping in to lead the next generation of soldiers. One of the newest commands at Scott AFB recently welcomed its new leader.

Army Major General Kevin Leonard became the commander of the Surface Deployment and Distribution Command on Thursday, according to the Associated Press.

The command was recently relocated to the base from Virginia in compliance with the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) effort.

The position was previously held by Army Major General James Hodge, who served the command for two years. Hodge was recently reassigned to Fort Lee where he will be in charge of the Army's Sustainment Center for Excellence.

Leonard previously served as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations at the Army's Material Command, according to the Belleville News-Democrat.

"He's a true visionary leader, and his performance has been nothing less than spectacular," Army General Ann Dunwoody, commander of the Material Command, told the news source. "I know [Leonard] will achieve extraordinary feats here and take it to the next level."
