Pilots are enjoying their time flying around the Georgian skies as
Robins AFB continues to test the F-15s.
The base is in charge of overhauling and test flying the aircraft, and pilots are currently breaking the sound barrier in order to make sure that the planes are ready for use, according to WMAZ.
"It beats a desk job any day, that's for sure," said Major Dan Badia to the news source. "I can't believe I get paid to do this."
Badia is one of only four pilots who get to test out the F-15, since Robins AFB is the only base in the country that maintains the aircraft. Each plane usually flies for about six years before being returned for maintenance, reports the news provider.
On average, it takes 120 days to overhaul the whole plane and every plane gets flown two or three times before being released for missions. In order to follow procedures, test pilots routinely break the sound barrier, which causes a sonic boom that roars through the surrounding community.
As of this year, the Air Logistics Center has overhauled more than 60 F-15's.
