Airmen at
Robins AFB are only some of the military members across the force that are placing an added emphasis on education this year. Building on last year's campaign, "Year of the Community College of the Air Force," the Air Force Materiel Command recently announced 2012's theme - "Year of Continuing Education."
"Continuing education benefits all of us - officer, enlisted and Air Force civilians - at every point in our careers," General Donald Hoffman, AFMC commander, stated in his email announcement of the initiative. "Effective Airmen and Air Force civilians continue to learn throughout their careers ... whether that means progressing towards your undergraduate or graduate degree, a certification, professional military education, or other developmental goal."
Senior Master Sergeant Gary Hunkins of Robins AFB has been chipping away at his educational dreams since he joined the Air Force in 1985. After marriage, family and work got in his way of reaching these goals, Hunkins said that the Air Force eventually made the opportunity to get his four-year degree easy and too tempting to pass up. The Air Force University Associate-to-Baccalaureate Cooperative was established, and Hunkins received his degree in human resource development, magna cum laude, from Southwestern College.
This year's initiative will encourage even more Airmen to continue their education to meet their dreams.
