Combining with members of the local community, emergency personnel from
Robins AFB in Georgia helped rescue two lost hunters in the woods near the base, according to a report on the base's website.
According to Robins' fire chief Forest Johnson, the hunters went out to the woods and swamp area on the east side of the base in the early morning hours, but later reported they were lost via their cell phones.
Members of the 78th Security Forces teamed up with personnel from the Robins Fire Department and the Houston County Fire Department's Search and Rescue Team to find the hunters. After their approximate location was determined using their cell phone signals and a Georgia State Patrol helicopter, search teams were able to locate the hunters, one of whom had become dehydrated and was taken to the hospital, the website said.
Hunters who have taken a safety course and possess a state license and base hunting permit are permitted to hunt in certain areas of the base, the site said. In addition, a daily pass is required to ensure that hunters only occupy a certain area during the day.
