The British F-35 Lightning touched down at
Eglin AFB yesterday, the first plane to be used on-base that was not built for the U.S. The plane will be used for pilot and maintainer training.
Student maintainers have been preparing to fly this next-generation plane using Aircraft Systems Maintenance Trainer (ASMT) while waiting for it to arrive. The program presents life-like virtual representation of the jet and its components allowing the student to immerse in a 3D environment while learning procedures and tasks.
Training in this 3D virtual jet provided a comprehensive training solution while the plane was en route. Prior to the plane touching down, the students gained their first certificate of completion in the F-35 courses for structures, avionics, weapons and crew chief career fields.
There a number of things about this plane that make it special. It's part of the F-35 Lightning II program for affordable next-generation aircraft for the Navy, Air Force, Marines and Allies. And it features cutting-edge technology, advanced airframe, propulsion systems and stealth. Additionally, it is the most affordable, lethal, supportable and survivable aircraft ever.
