Thanks to the Base Realignment and Closure Act (BRAC) of 2005, construction has become a way of life on military installations over the past few years. For on-base residents of
Fort Belvoir, it may be all downhill from here, as local news organizations are reporting that the new hospital is now halfway complete.
The hospital, one of two facilities being constructed in the D.C. area in an effort to condense military medical centers, will be a 120 bed, state-of-the-art healthcare facility that military officials claim will improve the services provided to American soldiers in the area.
"Long term this is going to save money and improve medical outcomes," Senator Mark Warner told News Channel 8, while touring the Virginia construction site. "And I think that it's great that this most cutting edge hospital perhaps in the whole military system is being built right here in Virginia."
Under the BRAC, Fort Belvoir will also see a child development center, a wounded warrior facility, a medical command center and a new dental clinic, Colonel Mark Moffat, a base commander revealed.
The news provider claims that the $4 billion hospital could be finished as early as 2011.
