In a move that is sure to please airmen and personnel currently working at the California installation,
Travis AFB is the recipient of $387,000 in funding from the House Armed Services Committee meant to construct a state of the art facility for Base Civil Engineer maintenance and supply units.
The funding was approved by Democratic Congressmen John Garamendi and George Miller as a part of HR 5822, the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2010.
Base officials claim that the new facility will allow up to 270 members of team Travis a safer and more efficient working environment than was previously available. Online news source The Reporter claims that the unit's previous facility was plagued by a leaky roof, a cracking foundation and degraded exteriors.
Congressman Garamendi believes the funding will also bring jobs back to the region while providing safer working conditions for those workers already employed by Travis AFB.
"Solano County's largest employer has too many buildings in need of modernization," Garamendi told the news provider. "This funding will put area residents back to work, reduce Travis' burden on the energy grid, and make sure our brave men and women in uniform have the facilities they need to do their jobs."
