In the military as in the professional world, a promotion is an indication of one's able handling of the tasks for which they are responsible. Nearly 50 airmen stationed at
Lackland AFB have earned this noble distinction, finding themselves listed among the 1,269 master sergeants being promoted to senior master sergeant earlier this month.
In all 49 airmen and women at Lackland AFB were selected for the promotions, representing 27 units at the Texan installation. The individuals came from a range of departments, such as the Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance agency and the 59th medical Logistics and Readiness Squadron.
The Air Force currently has around 13,741 master sergeants eligible for these promotions, maintaining a selection rate of 9.24 percent, according to the military press. The previous year's selection rate was 10.97 percent.
Soldiers chosen for promotion earned an average score of 665.85, with an average time in service of 20.2 years. Scores are tabulated by averaging an airman's rating in enlisted performance reports, number of decorations, performance on the Air Force Supervisory examination and a board score.
The promotions will be administered throughout the year according to the order of their overall scores, with the first commendations being delivered in April.
