Marines took a refresher course on their basic rifleman skills at
Camp Lejeune recently, the Defense Video & Imagery Distribution System reports.
More than 100 members of the Marine Air Control Squadron 2 participated in a field operation at Combat Town on the base, where they were divided into 12 squads. They spent the first day setting up camp and rehearsing the activities that would fill coming days - from land navigation to hand and arm signals.
"The first day of training is the building block for the next few days," said Staff Sergeant Brandon R. Morrison, a squad leader for the field exercise. "We are operating a crawl-walk-run operation. The hand and arm signals we teach them help communicate when hearing is impaired due to inclement weather or if bombs are going off around you."
The field training is a welcome respite from classroom learning, Private First Class LeeAnna L. Longhini, an embarkation clerk with Marine Air Control Squadron 2 told the news outlet.
"This training gives us an opportunity to sharpen our skills," she said. "This exercise gives us training on skills we might need while deployed and things we can use in everyday life, such as leadership skills."
