Long-time sergeant major retires at Camp Lejeune

Camp Lejeune held a farewell ceremony for a sergeant major who had served for 31 years recently, Marine Corps News reports.
Sergeant Major Charles T. Blumenberg was honored at the ceremony for his leadership skills throughout his career in the Marine Corps. He retired as the sergeant major of Combat Logistics Regiment 25, 2nd Marine Logistics Group at Camp Lejeune, the news outlet reports.
Guest speaker Colonel Eric M. Smith, commanding officer of 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division began the ceremony by expressing his gratitude to Blumenberg.
"We're sending a phenomenal [staff noncommissioned officer] home today," Smith said at the ceremony. "Sergeant major, you're the epitome of a staff NCO. [You taught me] how to do the right thing, and the right time to do it."
After graduating recruit training in 1980, Blumenberg was assigned as a track vehicle repairman with 1st Force Service Support Group at
Camp Pendleton. He then served in Okinawa, Japan, Twenty-Palms, California, Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm and became a drill instructor at Parris Island. He also had a great influence on the Wounded Warrior Regiment, the news outlet reports.
