When the call comes that a military member has been injured, the last thing the family wants is to worry about is where to stay when they rush to his or her side and how to pay for it. Fortunately, the Fisher House Foundation launched a program allowing the American public to donate unused hotel rewards to provide free
military lodging in such instances.
"The family members of our wounded heroes should never have to stress about the financial burden of travel," stated David Coker, president of FHF. "We are honored to help facilitate the process and are confident that the American public will help make this new program a success."
The program garnered the participation of six major hotel companies: Marriott, Wyndham, Best Western, Starwood, AmericInn and Choice Privileges Hotels. Families of wounded warriors can stay for free after arriving for free thanks to the sister program Hero Miles.
In addition to the hotels, families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers can stay at donated homes nearby for no expense. In 2011, more than 17,000 families were served saving more than $25 million in lodging costs.
