With many younger service members and their families being naïve on many of the monetary concerns that may arise from
military lodging programs, Hollister "Holly" Petraeus has taken it upon herself to fight against those who would take advantage of America's military families.
Petraeus - whose husband is General David Petraeus, the head of the U.S. Central Command placing him in charge of the wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan - is the director of the Council of Better Business Bureaus' Military Line where she has been helping stabilize the financial situation of soldiers for the past several years.
The organization is one of 20 nonprofits participating in the Department of Defense's (DOD) financial Readiness Campaign, which seeks to provide information and training for military families struggling with their finances.
The DOD initially became concerned that the financial problems of soldiers serving abroad was beginning to affect their performance in the field when numerous soldiers were forced to return home from combat due to economical obligations.
Since taking the helm of the Better Business Bureau, Petraeus has impacted an estimated 9,000 military personnel through informational classes or personal meeting, donated more than 750,000 copies of a financial guide book and created an online military financial information reserve, according to Financial Advisor magazine.
