Social media has been slightly controversial among members of the U.S. military, but
Fort Hood is using popular sites like Facebook to improve its community, the Army media outlet reports.
Members of the military must be careful of what they post on such social media sites for security reasons, but Fort Hood is showing how helpful these tools can be with its first Facebook and TV Town Hall event on January 26, the news source reports.
Soldiers, family members and civilians of Fort Hood logged on or tuned in to discuss topics such as medical care, infrastructure and housing during the town hall event. III Corps and Fort Hood Commanding General Lieutenant General Don Campbell Jr. told the news source that he was anticipating some difficult questions at the meeting, which was broadcast live on TV, the installation's web-based radio station and discussed on Facebook.
"I really believe it's important and we need to listen to them," Campbell told the news outlet about the community members participating in the meeting. "I'm not afraid of tough questions."
