Being a soldier entails a lot of sacrifice in service of one's country. There are the massive time commitments spent away from one's family, the constant travel to dangerous locations and the relatively low pay received by members of the military, not to mention the fact that the position requires that they literally place their lives on the line to complete their jobs. With these sacrifices in mind, soldiers at
Fort Carson are hoping that the public will help support than by making a small sacrifice of their own - a pint of blood.
As a part of the Armed Services Blood Program, Fort Carson will be running a blood drive for the local community. The drive hopes to secure a healthy amount of blood that will be used to support those troops serving overseas.
From the donation site, the blood will be freeze packed and delivered overseas within four days, an Army official tells the Pueblo Chieftan.
The drive is accepting donations from all healthy citizens over the age of 17 who weigh at least 110 pounds and haven't donated blood in the past 56 days, according to the website.
