Change is in the air for the soldiers and civilians at
Fort Carson, as Senior Army officials have begun mulling over whether or not to bring a new helicopter aviation battalion to the Mountain Post in the not too distant future.
Speaking to Chieftan.com, garrison commander Colonel Robert Mclaughlin claims that the new 2,000-soldier helicopter unit would be a perfect fit at the Colorado installation due to its higher than normal elevation and the unique training scenarios it provides soldiers who will encounter similar terrain in Afghanistan.
Mclaughlin, who has served at the post for more than a year, also believes that the new battalion could help improve the landscape of the Mountain Post through the opening of new facilities, gates and other means.
"With more soldiers, there is a momentum that will also bring more money to Fort Carson," he told the news provider.
The commander also plans to open up new training grounds and procedures for the 4th Infantry Division, beginning with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team.
