The chain of command is a rapidly evolving thing in the American military. To keep the line of fresh blood flowing at
Fort Bragg, Command Sergeant Major Sultan A Muhammad has stepped down from his position as garrison command sergeant major.
Muhammad, a Baltimore native and third-generation Muslim, retires after serving four successful combat tours overseas and earning praise and respect from his soldiers and commanding officers.
The 43-year old Command Sergeant told the Fay Observer that his success is indicative of the American dream that is still alive for the Muslim people.
"It is interesting, especially during these times that we are in, for a leader like myself to show commitment to our nation and also be able to maintain my faith as a Muslim in the United States of America," Muhammad told the News Provider. "That truly shows the reason why we are Americans."
Command Sergeant Major Samuel B Campbell will assume Muhammad's position in the coming weeks and has promised to continue his predecessor's positive environment, according to the Observer.
