Fort Belvoir makes updates, changes to wounded warrior care. The Wounded Warrior program at Fort Belvoir recently celebrated a change in leadership during a ceremony on  base, the Belvoir Eagle reports. U.S. Army Wounded Warrior Program Director Colonel Gregory D. Gadson handed the reins to Colonel Timothy M. Karcher after serving in the position for two years, the news outlet reports.

Gadson, a double amputee himself, oversaw all non medical case management for as many as 11,000 severely ill or injured members of the U.S. Army Warrior Transition Command, veterans and their families. Karcher plans on continuing Gadson's hard work to help soldiers take the next step in their recovery, according to the news outlet.

"This is an opportunity to do what leaders do, take care of soldiers, veterans and their families," Karcher said at the ceremony, the news outlet reports. "AW2 advocates for them when the path is muddled, to bridge the gap between Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs, and to ease the transition to whatever the soldier is determined to do. Helping folks get to the next event of their lives."

The change in command is not the only news pertaining to wounded warriors at Fort Belvoir. The USO Warrior and Family Care Center on base recently completed its framework, the news source reports. The building, which will offer welcoming areas, recreation and respite areas for wounded soldiers and their families, is set to be finished in December of this year.
