Reflecting the growing concerns of human impact on the world, the U.S. military has been at the forefront of energy conservation and renewable resource efforts in recent years. To showcase its commitment to the military's green agenda, soldiers at
Eglin AFB recently participated in a three-day experiment to study the base's energy expenditures.
During the President's Day weekend, the Energy Management Center at Eglin (EEMC) instituted its "How Low Can You Go" conservation campaign, which challenged on-base personnel to drastically reduce their energy usage in an effort to study how much energy could regularly be saved should the installation instate more eco-conscious practices.
The study revealed that over the three day weekend, comma the base was able to save more than 90,000 kilowatts of electricity when compared to the same time period in 2009, a projected savings of nearly $11,000 according to the military press.
"The energy reduction is even more significant considering we averaged 15 degrees lower temperatures to last year," said Bob Grimm of the EEMC. "This is just the first of many energy saving campaigns planned for Eglin, so be sure to make energy a consideration in all you do."
