The job of ensuring safety and comfort for 1,000 Airmen is a big one, but the six dorm managers at
Travis AFB are up for the task. One of the most important parts of their duty is helping the Airmen who are transitioning between technical school and life at their new assigned station.
To help them through this time, which is "a critical time for an Airman's development and success," the dorm managers present them with a type of care package when they first arrive.
Snacks, towels, a toothbrush, laundry detergent, toiletries and a comforter set is packed into a laundry basket to help the new residents get through their first days on base. Although the gifts seem less than exciting, they can mean a lot to Airmen.
"My favorite item in the gift basket was definitely the towel," said Airman 1st Class Juan Gavidia, 60th Logistics Readiness Squadron internet protocol technician. "All I wanted to do when I got off my flight was take a good shower."
The dorm managers are also responsible for maintaining cleanliness across the 45-acre campus, assist with the processing of Airmen who come and go, resolve maintenance issues and provide recreational supplies.
