Earlier this month members of the Marine Corps stationed at
Camp Pendleton showed their support to military families by informing a gathering of children and parents living on-base of the myriad of scholarships and assistance organizations available for the families of Marines.
The scholarship workshop, which was a part of the Marine Corps Family Team Building event that occurred earlier in the month, detailed a number of organizations that offer scholarship programs specifically for service members and their families including the Camp Pendleton Officer Wives Club, American Patriot Freedom and the Marine Corps League.
The event was presented by the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, a non-profit organization that seeks to advance the post-high school education of the sons and daughters of marines, particularly those whose parents were killed or wounded in the line of duty.
Since 1962, the organization has provided roughly 24,000 scholarships to military children at an estimated cost of $50 million. In 2009 alone, 1,400 individuals received these scholarships.
Organizers also disbursed information on tutoring websites and outreach programs that cater to military families in need.
