Like much of the country, the American military is in the midst of a push towards more a eco-conscious and green existence. Though army installations across the country have made considerable efforts to reduce energy usage and invest in sustainable living, these are largely team efforts conducted between soldiers and the community at large. One organization hoping to interact more fervently with the community around them is
Fort Bragg, which recently sent a conservationist into the surrounding areas to discuss the North Carolina installation's commitment to preserving the environment and the wildlife that resides within it.
Conservationist Alan Schultz has been meeting with civilian organizations in the area in an attempt to coordinate an agenda between these groups and the military that will greatly benefit the surrounding environment.
Schultz, the chief of Fort Bragg's Wildlife Branch, is hoping to utilize the joint resources of the Army and the general population to protect the wildlife of the region through training exercises and awareness campaigns.
These training exercises will include simulated forest fires, forestry lessons and an in-depth course on the public use of natural resources, according to the ThePilot.com.
