Maxwell AFB continues to grow and evolve with the times. This week, the Alabama installation welcomed a new senior adviser for operations for the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) National Headquarters, Colonel Michael Jay Murell.
Murell, who initially began as the aerospace education advisor with the CAP, will be charged with assisting the national leadership with conduct and support of the organization's operational missions.
The Colonel has spent four years with the CAP and received numerous awards for his service including a distinguished service award, an exceptional service award, a Commander's Commendation and a Gill Robb Wilson Award that signifies the completion of the organization's professional development program.
Murell currently serves as the Florida Wing deputy chief of staff for operations, and has served as an Ohio wing commander, wing director of occupations and deputy director of emergency services in the past.
In addition to serving as a senior adviser, a role he will assume at the end of this month, Murell is also an active CAP mission observer, director of an air operations branch, section chief and incident commander.
