The citizens of Fayetteville, North Carolina, might want to invest in some earplugs in the next few days, as Marines from
Camp Lejeune head to nearby
Fort Bragg for spring artillery training.
Beginning March 1, the Marines will be discharging nearly 2 dozen of their largest - and by extension loudest - weapons currently in use, including the 155 millimeter howitzer which can fire rounds roughly 25 miles down range and land within 50 meters of a target, according to ABC news.
"It is one of the hardships of living by
Fort Bragg or any other large military installation," said Tom McCollum, a spokesman for the installation. "There are going to be some sound effects coming in from the training. And for the people who are upset about it, we do apologize."
In the past, the training has worn on well into the night, but base officials have instituted restrictions on the training that will prevent Marines from discharging their weapons between 11p.m. and 5 a.m., McCollum told the news provider.
The Marines will continue the training through March, before returning to Camp Lejeune in early April.
