In an effort to learn from their peers across the pond, a contingent of Royal British Marines have landed at Marine Corps Base
Camp Lejeune for a series of training exercises devoted towards the fading art of amphibious assault.
More than 2,000 British soldiers from the Third Commando Brigade arrived at the North Carolina installation last week, and have been drilling beach assault and seizure on Lejeune's Onslow Beach, reports the Associated Press. Over 4,000 American Marines from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit will be on hand to assist with the training as well.
Similar training has been going on for the last 10 weeks, with soldiers training on amphibious vehicles old and new. The idea being to maintain the marine's focus on sea-to-land warfare and prepare them for whatever challenges may face in the future.
"This is real world training right here, it really doesnt get any close than this, unless you have the bullets coming back at you, this is the closest you'll get to a real time combat situation," Corporal Kenneth Libby told WNCT.com. "You Never know when you're gonna be next," he added.
