Boat races in Detroit are one military discount travel option for servicemen

Free boat races in Detroit could be one military discount travel optionServicemen looking for military discount travel options could watch boats race at speeds of up to 200 miles per hour for free in Detroit.

The unlimited hydroplane boats and other classes will race near Belle Isle from July 10-12 as part of the APBA Gold Cup races.

Races on Friday are free for everyone until 7 p.m., according to event director Mark Weber, but active duty members of the military who show identification will be able to attend the three-day boating event at no charge.

Family-friendly attractions include picnic areas and hot rod displays at Henderson Park, and servicemen will also have a chance to see the U.S. Navy's West Coast Super Hornet Demo Team take to the skies in F/A-18s for aerial demonstrations.

Hotels like the Fairfield Inn are 12 miles away from the airport in nearby West Canton and also offer deals for servicemen, with pre-discount rates of no more than $99 per night including amenities like family rooms for those traveling with loved ones.
