Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden spent time with military families at
Camp Pendleton as part of an effort spearheaded by Jill and first lady Michelle Obama, U-T San Diego reports.
Jill Biden visited the Infantry Immersion Trainer, a simulation of what Marines might see while deployed to Afghanistan, then toured the facilties where Marines learn how to disable bombs.
Both Bidens visited the Wounded Warrior Battalion aboard Camp Pendleton, meeting the service members who are staying there.
"It's just astounding, astounding what you do," Biden told the Marines, San Diego 6 News reports. "It takes my breath away. You guys are amazing - absolutely, positively amazing."
He continued to tell the wounded service members how caring for veterans and active duty servicemembers is the "single most significant obligation the United States of America has."
"We only have one sacred obligation in the government," Biden told the troops. "We have a lot of obligations - to the old, to the young, to educate - but we have only one sacred obligation and that is to equip those we send to war and care for those we bring home from war."
