Meals may be improving at MacDillServicemen stationed at MacDill AFB could be eating well in the coming weeks, as the Florida Installation has been chosen as one of six bases to participate in the new pilot program of the Air Force services agency's Food Transformation Initiative (FTI).

The move is an attempt by the Air Force to change the way that it delivers food that meets the needs of today's airmen. The service has been using the same method of feeding troops for the past 60 years with the service itself based on a much larger and more stationary force.

FTI revamps the older process of meal disbursement by making them more flexible and efficient to reflect America's modern military which is mostly comprised of smaller, expeditionary forces.

"MacDill AFB is slated to begin the pilot Oct. 1," Master Sergeant Alejandro Ray, manager of the 6th Force Support Squadron Dining Facility, told the military press. "Instead of dorm residents only being authorized to eat in the Dining Facility, their meal cards will enable them to eat at any FSS dining establishment."

MacDill's dining facility is open to all on-base personnel including civilian employees, family members and retirees, according to Sergeant Ray.
