Members of the American military may have found a new way to save money while visiting family across the country this fall, as Amtrak has announced a new round of
military discount travel for active duty soldiers and their immediate families that book their trips by July 9.
The 10 percent discount, which comes in addition to a 10 percent discount already placed on train tickets for members of the military, will apply for those soldiers riding the rails between August 21 and November 12, according to an official release.
Amtrak president Joe Boardman says it is an honor to support servicemen and women so close to Independence Day.
"As a former member of the military, I know first-hand, the sacrifice made by members of the military and their families," Boardman announced. "As we celebrate Independence Day, Amtrak applauds the efforts of the men and women who wear our nation's uniform and welcomes them and their families on board."
The discounts can apply to any of the company's 500 stations across 46 states, and can be combined with children's half-off discounts already in place.
