Military families often wait anxiously for news of their loved ones' return date. When family members were alerted that troops from
Travis AFB would be heading back home from Afghanistan, many waited eagerly at the Sacramento International Airport to see their loved ones.
Two U.S. Airways flights recently flew into Sacramento and brought home 25 Air Force airmen and women, according to News10.com. The group spent six months in Afghanistan.
"I think all these people are waiting around, waiting for someone to come home," said Jake VanNieueberg, to the news source. He was waiting for his friend from 5th grade to walk off of the plane. "There will be some hugs. Maybe even kisses and tears," he said as he motioned to the children and families waiting.
With troops moving out of Iraq, there will be more military personnel sent to Afghanistan in the coming year, according to the news source. If everything goes according to plan, the personnel that just returned will not be re-deployed for a year.
