The leadership at
Wright Patterson AFB continued to evolve this month as the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) welcomed its new commander, Major General Ellen Pawlikowski, at a change-of-command ceremony at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force earlier this month.
Pawlikowski replaced Major General Curtis Bedke at the post, which he held for more than 2 years prior to his retirement in early February. The officer was awarded the Legion of Merit upon his retirement in light of his more than 30 years of service in the Air Force.
The event, which was presided over by General Donald J Hoffman, marked Pawlikowski's return to the AFRL after more than 16 years spent on other assignments, and the general was proud to be back.
"[It's] good to be home," she told the gathering. "You can and should be proud. There are airmen alive today because of what you've done
Our Air Force in 2010 depends upon scientific breakthroughs. AFRL's mission is to nurture that curiosity (leading to the breakthroughs)."
Speaking to the military press, Pawlikowski claimed that the greatest challenge in hew new assignment would be the inevitable integration of internet technology into Air Force operations.
